HK job prospects look good for 2010

Hong Kong looks like the place to be for jobseekers next year. The first quarter is promising – even to pre recession levels, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, which polled 828 Hong Kong employers.

Almost 17% of employers expect to be hiring before March next year, up from 11% in the final quarter of 2009. Set that against a mere 4% of those surveyed who said they would be likely to lay off staff. Three quarters of those polled predict no change.

The survey results indicate that employers’ hiring confidence has been restored," said Lancy Chui, General Manager of Manpower's Hong Kong and Macau operations, adding: "The gradual revival of the local economy has helped to improve the labour market as the latest unemployment rate registered its first decline since the outbreak of the global financial turmoil that hit Hong Kong a year ago.”

The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey involved 828 Hong Kong employers. Each was asked to anticipate global hiring plans for the quarter ahead (January to March 2010).
