Singaporean MOM unveils plans to address workplace health and wellbeing
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore has unveiled a new three-point plan to ensure people work safely at height, in turn securing the health and safety of employees through new labour laws.
By 2015, all workplaces will need to have plans of their own in place for safety, with the MOM teaching businesses around the country while also recognising businesses through certification.
Mr Suresh Navaratnam, a taskforce member and the director of the policy, information and corporate services department of the MOM's Occupational Safety and Health Division, said the organisation is committed to the reduction of such incidents after it was concluded that falls from height were the biggest cause of death in the nation.
"MOM will complement these efforts with enhanced enforcement efforts on two fronts. We will review our existing legislation as well as reach out to more companies, especially smaller set-ups, through our inspections."
The MOM prides itself on four values: people centeredness, professionalism, teamwork and passion for progress.
