CFOs are 'less concerned about layoffs' in Asia
A new study by the CFO Magazine Global Business Outlook Survey and Duke University has discovered that European and US market leaders are much more worried about their future than those in Asia.
Chief financial officers were surveyed, with many reporting cuts to employee reward and others registering falls in employee engagement, as well as problems maintaining profit margins.
"The economy has begun to show signs of life, but improvement in corporate performance appears to be coming on the backs of the employees," said senior editor at CFO Magazine Kate O'Sullivan.
"During the recession, in addition to layoffs, companies cut numerous employee programs and benefits and few companies plan to restore these programs in the coming year."
The comments follow reports from the Middle East, which has recently seen Abu Dhabi injecting money into Dubai to keep its head above water during the economic downturn, meaning that Asian markets have bounced back and are thus helping to sustain share-reliant assets such as pensions.
