Singapore pay 'to rise by 3.2%'

Salary sacrifice in Singapore will not be an issue, with the area reporting a projected average 3.2 per cent pay rise over 2010 in the latest survey of the area.

Mercer's Total Remuneration Survey reports significantly higher totals than in 2009, where it was only predicted that employee reward of this kind would be at just 1.9 per cent.

Southeast Asia business leader for information product solutions at Mercer Puneet Swani said that the vast majority of salary freezes will likely to be lifted after January.

He continued: "As companies start to see the signs of economic recovery in Singapore, they are becoming more positive about the year ahead. As such, significantly fewer organisations plan to freeze salaries in 2010, compared with this time last year."

Despite this, Mr Swami warned that while employee expectations may have increased, salary increase budgets may not have similarly adjusted.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore unveiled a plan to improve safety in workplaces, notably that of those working at major heights, as this was the single biggest contributor to employment death in the country.
