Leading Philippines union asking for further pay rise
A leading labour organisation in the Philippines is to file a petition demanding an increase of P100 (£1.46) in the daily wage of workers in Central Visayas, citing an improving outlook in the economy.
The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) has highlighted how the price of fuel, basic commodities and goods add to this need for change and yesterday filed its petition before the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board to push the minimum wage of labourers in the region to P367 (£5.36).
Raymund Mendoza said it was as long ago as two years when Metro Cebu's minimum expected outgoings rose from P250 (£3.65) to P267 (£3.90) per day.
It follows a little unrest across the country about the average wage, which some believe is forcing many skilled people to look to other countries for a better income.
Last week, the TUCP announced that it was aiming to secure a P75 (£1) a day wage hike across the board for workers in Metro Manila.
