Delhi approves rise in minimum wage

Minimum wage increases of 33 per cent for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers have been approved by the Delhi Cabinet, with changes also applying to clerical and non-technical staff, it has been revealed.

Sheila Dikshit, Delhi's chief minister, said the has the highest minimum wages in the country and ensures that the hard graft of people living in the city is being rewarded in the correct way.

It means that from now on, an unskilled labourer will get R5,272 (£77.02) per month while semi-skilled labourers can take home more, expecting at least R5,850 (£85.47) each month.

Skilled labourers, on the other hand, are now entitled to minimum wages of R6,448 (£94.21) per month.

The structure of minimum wages, which was last revised in March 2008, is effective from February 1st.

Last week, it was revealed that the Malaysian government will announce there will be a new national minimum wage for security officers at the end of March.
