Chinese govt aims to get most graduates employed
The Chinese government is going as far as it can to hit the 80 per cent employment level for graduates during 2010, according to a new report.
In the coverage from HRM Asia, it was revealed that China will have 6.3 million graduates this year alone, even though job opportunities within base-level organisations and small to medium-sized businesses are constricted.
In response, the Ministry of Finance has put up a 43.3 billion yuan (£4.141 billion) subsidy for those wanting to work in rural or smaller regional areas.
Minister of HR and social security Yin Weimin believes that the bulk of graduate employment will start in the next few months and was quoted as saying: "We will strive to achieve a 70 per cent employment rate for graduates by July, and the rate is expected to hit 80 per cent by the end of the year."
It may be a response to surveys similar to that of the Mycos Institute, which found that over one in four Chinese graduates questioned in a poll said their major concern was with a lack of opportunities in the country that would help them develop a meaningful career.
