South Korea toils to increase tourism
Employee benefits and new jobs could be created in the tourism industry in South Korea as the government increases its efforts attract more tourists to the nation.
In an attempt to increase the number of foreigners visiting the nation, South Korea has pledged to invest in budget hotels alongside investing in developing more ecological tourist spots.
It was also declared that immigration regulations for Chinese tourists will be reduced in order to allow people to travel more easily.
Yu In-chon, the minister of culture, sports and tourism, said: "Our government expects these measures will help attract Chinese tourists pre-emptively, as they are emerging as the major customer of the world's tourism market."
The target has been set at 12 million international visitors per year by 2014, in comparison to the 7.8 million visits that were recorded last year.
Among the innovative measures proposed by the government is the development of the port city of Incheon, besides six new quays being built to facilitate visits from cruise ships.
