ACTU: WorkChoices threaten jobs
Jobs and employee benefits are under threat from the reintroduction of WorkChoices, warned the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).
ACTU has expressed its concerns over the plans of opposition leader Tony Abbott to re-launch the controversial workplace regulations.
Ged Kearney, president of ACTU, expressed her support for Labor policies which had ensured that Australia recovered quickly from the global financial crunch.
Commenting on the policies of the Liberal Party of Australia, she said: "Tony Abbott opposes measures to stimulate the economy, will cut jobs and public services and is refusing to increase superannuation. The Liberals will also abandon the National Broadband Network and wind back other key infrastructure projects.
"His main economic policy is to bring back WorkChoices by another name."
The Australian senate recently approved measures for boosting superannuation rates for workers which was widely contested by the mining industry due to an increase in taxes. The paid maternity leave bill was also recently passed by the house.
