ADB funding could boost jobs in Sri Lanka
Employee reward and job opportunities could be on the rise in Sri Lanka as the government strives to secure funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to build a new highway.
The proposed road will connect the capital city Colombo to Kandy up in the north-east of the country. Construction of the highway is estimated to cost $500 million.
Although the ADB's present country assistance funds do not include any plans for financing the project, the bank's country director Richard Vokes confirmed that it was in talks with the government, according to a report published in Lanka Business Online.
Set out as prime candidate for implementing tolling measures, the maintenance of the highway would be continued by using the money generated from road tax.
The government is also planning on reconstructing road connections through the country's war-affected areas in the north in order to ease traffic flow and increase chances of business growth in these areas.
Recently, Beira Enviro Solution started an innovative plastic waste management plant in the Horana region south of Colombo.
