Employee reward and benefits news

South Australia attracts talent with 'unusual jobs'

Employee benefits being used as bait to retain staff may not work in the face of the treasure trove of jobs being offered by South Australia.

Set to start a global migration of international talent, the island-country is offering British workers a chance to live out their dreams in the Australian outback.

On offer is a range of unusual work with job descriptions that are not likely to get any more off-beat. Workers can take up a job as a professional koala catcher or judge beauties on beaches for a living.

At the centre of this jobs boom is the Australian mining industry which is creating a wide variety of new opportunities.

Matt Johnson, deputy agent general of South Australia, said: "The thing about mining is that it is preceded by construction and that means jobs.

"There are two sides to this we have jobs in engineering and also the lighter end jobs for those who want a better lifestyle in a dynamic part of the world."
