Employee reward and benefits news
Give 'all' workers access to bonuses
All workers should have access to bonuses to prevent certain factions of the workforce being alienated.
This is the opinion of Mike Ogilvie, managing director at OBC the accountants.
While all workers acknowledge that people in management positions will earn more, the question "to what extent" often causes conflict.
"What they would object to is bonuses at the top if there are no bonuses for performance at the bottom," Mr Ogilvie explained.
Without a fair employee benefits strategy keeping workers engaged and productive can be problematic.
Employee reward schemes must be applied "across the board", according to Mr Ogilvie, to incentivise workers and prevent hierarchical tensions.
While rewards may not necessarily be equal, presenting employees with the opportunity to boost their pay packets will be valued.
It is also important to build worker loyalty, as many will stay with a firm if they believe their leaders to be honest and fair.
